Recalls are becoming a serious issue for Toyota. Isn't it time for the inventor of Lean to acknowledge that Lean alone is not working. It must look deeper into its supply chain to investigate the causes of the supply failures, ie the processes - and find a way to improve each and every critical supply process.
Toyota said today it will be recalling 625,000 hybrid cars globally owing to a software glitch that, in limited instances, might shut down the hybrid system while the car is being driven. In May, the company had to recall a further 5m vehicles owing to defective airbags from Japanese supplier Takata, taking its total number to 8.1m.
